Reviewer: sync 2.0 review Version: Sync 2.0 Date: Oct 6, 2007 Rating: |
Sync 2.0 is said to be a simple command line Java utility useful to synchronize directories. That's true from a user's point of view where "simple" also means 'ease of use'. If its simple from a coder's point of view, I'd say one could do worse than learn to develop in Java. Sync 2.0 will be the first Java program I regularly use. In testing to familiarize myself with Sync 2.0 the program threw an error warning about being unable to write flags on the destination directory. That's probably because the destination directory I used was a mapped NTFS network drive. Sync 2.0 warned, but it copied, so my sense is its 'not a big deal'. There's a "simulate" option that will detail what Sync 2.0 would do were it not running in "simulate" mode. A simulated run involving some 14,000+ files advised me that there was 1 directory in the target directory tree not in the source directory tree. I do wish I knew what directory that was. All in all, Sync 2.0 can be a useful and nice introduction to Java; it was for me. |
