  There are some things that are too good to be true. Easeus Todo Backup is not one of them. It works great, is easy to use and most of all, is free. Made by Chengdu Yiwo Tech Development, the software is the latest in a lineup that is already crowded with big names like Acronis, Norton Ghost and Easy Image. What does this software do? Easeus claims that its software is capable of doing the following:

 

·     Backup system,
·     Backup disk
·     Restore image
·     Act as a bootable CD
·     Clone disk
·     Check integrity of image backup
·     Mount back-up image as a virtual drive
 
  Most of the functionalities mentioned are standard features for names like Acronis and Norton Ghost, but a free package that does everything on the list deserves notice. The ability for the software to create a bootable live CD that contains your backup data is highly innovative and is a very creative way of surmounting the problem of reviving a hard disk whose operating system is non-working.
 
  Easeus is a capable disk backup manager. You choose whether to backup only files or to copy the entire image of the hard disk. As a disk image utility, Easeus can serve as a disk cloner. Put two hard disks in your computer and let Easeus make an exact copy of the contents of one hard disk to the other.
 
  What is a typical use case for a disk image backup? This type of backup restores all the contents of your hard disk by copying what is in the image file into your hard drive. The content of the backup CD is not all data. It also contains a Linux OS that acts as a bootable live CD which can be used to power up a computer whose operating system is unable to boot the computer. The live CD can restore the hard drive to a working state by copying the image into the disk.
 
  A disk cloner is the fastest way of installing standard software into multiple computers. Instead of installing the software one by one in each computer, an administrator may simply clone a master hard drive by using Easeus and install a finished clone into the new computer. You are free to use multiple computers to create disk clones, in this way hundreds of hard disks containing standard software can be made in a day.
 
  A very strong point in Easeus’ favor is its highly intuitive and easy to use GUI. All complex tasks, such as creating a backup set for the first time, are guided by wizards. You can password protect your backup files using industrial strength encryption, make the size of your backup smaller by using three levels of compression, all by the use of wizards. There is also a step by step feature to split image files into convenient sizes of 100 MB, 650 MB, 700 MB and 4.7 GB. This ensures that your image backups fits certain media types like CDs (650 or 700 MB) or DVDs (4.7 GB).
 
  To restore data, just tell Easeus where to save the copy of your image file in your hard disk and the software will do the rest with minimal user supervision.
 
  So, how does the software fare when compared with names like Acronis or Norton Ghost? It is quite impressive and the fact that it is free only makes the software a very compelling choice. It is easy to use, has advanced features like disk image backups and disk cloning. The image backup can serve as a bootable live CD that can resurrect unbootable hard drives.
 
  The software has its downsides, most notable is the requirement to reboot your computer after the software is installed but this is just a very minor defect.
