4.4.1 Mar 1, 2011 New Release Tenable is pleased to announce the release of Nessus 4.4.1.
This new release contains the following improvements and fixes:
- It is now possible to define a global maximum number of packets per second sent by the SYN scanner, no matter how many scans are running, by setting the option nessus_syn_scanner.global_throughput.max in nessusd.conf (for instance, setting nessus_syn_scanner.global_throughput.max = 10000 guarantees that nessusd will not send more than 10,000 packets per second during the port scan phase). Use this feature if you're scanning through fragile firewalls or if you want to reduce the impact of the port scan on the network ;
- We've modified the backend database to automatically switch from the "high" memory usage (which uses more memory but is faster during the scan) to "low" (which uses less memory but slows scans down a little) when nessusd can't allocate enough memory. In 4.4.0, Nessus would abort if it could not load the database in memory ;
4.4.0 Nov 10, 2010 New Release Tenable is proud to announce the availability of Nessus 4.4.0.
This new version includes the following major features:
- Scan scheduling: scans can be configured to run daily/weekly/monthly
- Improved reporting via a new built-in reporting engine
- Reduced memory usage
- The ability to reload the plugins and configuration while scans are on-going
4.2.2 Apr 15, 2010 New Release Nessus 4.2.2 has been released today. This release contains the following fixes:

Nessus-fetch:
- Proxy issues have been resolved

NASL:
- Fixed a memory leak in the NASL xmlparse() function

Networking:
- Fixed IPv6 routing when talking to a remote host (FreeBSD, Mac OS X)
- Packet forgery was not always working on ES5 64 bits

Packaging:

- Fixed the Debian /etc/rc init script
- Upgraded OpenSSL to version 0.9.8n (Windows, Solaris)

Stability:
- Fixed a possible crash when using a badly written custom plugin
- Fixed a possible crash when running out of BPFs on Windows More Information
4.2.1 Feb 22, 2010 New Release Web Based Interface
Nessus 4.2 comes with a built-in web interface which lets you start your scan and analyze the results from any system which can connect to your Nessus scanner.

Enhanced Reporting
Nessus 4.2 lets you compare different scans. It also contains an improved report export format, with additional templates being regularly distributed through the Nessus ProfessionalFeed.

Performance enhancements
Scans start quicker, plugins updates use less bandwidth, memory usage has been further reduced and the handling of network timeouts has been improved.

* nessus-fetch now supports Basic, Digest, and NTLM proxy authentication schemes
* The timeout for NessusClient TCP socket was too low and has been increased
* The 'nessus' cmd line tool would sometimes leave temporary files on the filesystem
* Improved performance for reverse DNS lookups
* Knowledge Base files would sometimes not be created for targets where the user specified a hostname
* Pinging a remote host would sometimes fail if the ARP address of the gateway was not in the local cache

Windows:
* On some configurations registration would not complete
* 'Manage users' would not change the users passwords
* NessusClient would sometimes close a modified report without asking to save first
* The Nessus server now runs on Windows 7. However, Windows 7 is not officially supported at this time. Features such as packet forgery are not yet functioning.
